Don't be Clever.... Be Smart!

I get it, is seems like kind of a silly question right? Surely being clever can never be anything but a good deal?

Recently it occurred to me though, that sometimes being clever can get in the way of success.

Clever me, seems to have some issues that slow down progress!

Clever me sees obstacles and pitfalls, clever me identifies the seventeen alternative approaches to my problem, clever me is paralysed by 'what ifs' and 'worst case scenarios'. Clever me, is too, well clever to make a move.

Clever me also likes being clever - even to the point of being obscure. That my friend, is not helping anyone!

If being 'clever' presents as a poisoned chalice, being smart, is the drink of choice. The distinction between 'clever' and 'smart' is not mere word play or just a 'cute' catch phrase.

Being smart is a powerful and focused approach to succeeding in your chosen field.

Clever Vs Smart - lets review!

The sweet spot for planning

Clearly to be smart, you have to be at least a little bit clever, you just have to be smart about it! ;)

I for one am making being 'objective focused' my key touch stone for all my 'side hustle' activities; after all, if you don't know where you are going you won't know when you are there! More importantly you won't be able to plan your approach.

I would love to hear your ideas on being 'Smart' about your hustle; what has worked for you? What moments defined your success and how did you orient towards your goals?
